Man arrested, charged in cold-case California family murder

Law enforcement authorities arrested a man on Nov. 5 in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles in connection with the cold-case murders of four Southern California family members. The remains of the family of four, who had been missing since their mysterious 2010 disappearance, were discovered last year by a person who was riding an ATV off-road on land near Interstate 15 between San Diego and Las Vegas outside of Victorville.

Proposition 47 could reduce drug possession violations

On Oct. 4, it was reported that a proposition that is scheduled to appear on California's Nov. 4 ballot will reduce six nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors if it passes. It was estimated that the proposition, known as Proposition 47 or the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, would save the state up to $200 million a year. This money could be funneled into programs that address mental health and substance abuse.

Oakland men charged with home invasion after parking illegally

Two Oakland men, ages 18 and 19, have been charged in relation to a carjacking and multiple home invasion robberies after another Oakland resident complained that the 19-year-old man's Mercedes was parked in the path of a driveway, according to police. Police responding to the report in the 2100 block of East 25th Street believed the blue Mercedes to be the same vehicle used during the home invasions.
